Harry Martin Little
(18 Mar or 12 May 1883 - 5 Feb 1947)
The narrative that follows is transcribed from Alexander (Sandy) Waddell's invaluable summary in his biographical documentation of the Little and Martin families.
Joined cousin William (Dalgleish?) Little in Shanghai, succeeded by Robert (Bob) Dalgliesh, trading as Wm Little and Co in import and export of piece goods.
He married Jean Somers Gordon Ballingall 29 Mar 1913. Their five children were Helen Gordon Little (b 19 Jan 1914), Marion Lawrence Little (b 7 Oct 1916), Matthew (Hew) Martin Little (b 23 Jan 1918), Jean Heather Little (b 12 May 1921), and David Maxwell Little (b 24 Oct 1922). All were born in Shanghai excepting Heather who chose Hampstead.
Over-stocking by his business partner (then Robert Dalgliesh) during his absence on leave in England in 1930's, and with negotiations afoot to limit the liability of the Company incomplete, caused its bankruptcy, leaving Harry to meet all debts.
Latterly he was involved with the Shanghai Water Works (Chairman) and other utilities. Surviving internment under the Japanese during the Second World War 1943-45, he died 5 Feb 1947.
